Mystery Backpack
Your subjects
Use the ready-made school subjects, or type your own here — one per line. Study a specific set of exam topics? Put those in and the backpack picks from your list.
Let the backpack pick what you study
Staring at your timetable, unable to choose what to revise first? Hand the decision to the mystery backpack. Tap once and it shakes, unzips and opens to pull out a single random school subject. Every subject on your list has an equal, crypto-random chance — so you skip the dithering and just get started. It's revision roulette that actually makes study feel fun.
When to reach for it
| Use it for | How it helps |
|---|---|
| Revision roulette | Can't decide which subject to revise? Let the backpack choose and start straight away |
| Study sessions | Break a long study block into random rounds — a new subject each pick keeps it fresh |
| "You pick for me" | Beat decision paralysis when every subject feels equally due |
| Exam prep | Load your real exam topics and let it surprise you with what to practise next |
| Home & classroom | A playful way for parents or teachers to assign a subject without arguments |
A random pick only makes sense when the options are all fair game — and when several subjects are equally due for revision, that's exactly the case. If a subject genuinely matters most (an exam tomorrow), study that one; the backpack is for the times you're truly indifferent or just want a nudge to begin.
Why a backpack, not a wheel
Genuinely fair
Every pick uses crypto.getRandomValues() — no bias, every subject equally likely. It's a draw you can actually trust to be random.
A reveal with a payoff
The shake, the unzip, the card rising out of the top — there's a little suspense before your subject appears, instead of a wheel just stopping.
Made for studying
Each subject comes up with its own colour and a one-line reminder of what it covers, so the pick sets the tone for the session.
Your list, your subjects
Swap the twelve defaults for your own exam units and it picks from those — up to 30. Remove each after studying for a no-repeat round.
The right study tool for the job
The backpack picks one subject at a time. For a related task, we have a tool made for it:
- A teacher picking students, jobs and rewards too? The all-in-one Classroom Randomizer has a Subject mode built in.
- Choosing a quiz or lesson topic to write about? Try the Quiz Topic Picker or the Essay Topic Picker.
- Need a quick maths warm-up? The Maths Practice Spinner generates practice questions.
- Just want a plain list spinner? The classic Wheel of Names spins any list you paste in.
