Reading Dice Notation
Switch to Number Dice mode and you can type rolls the way board games write them. The shorthand looks cryptic at first, but it follows one simple pattern.
Dice notation is written as NdS+M: N is how many dice you roll, S is the number of sides on each, and M is an optional number added to (or subtracted from) the total. So 2d6+3 means "roll two six-sided dice and add three", giving a result between 5 and 15. A plain d20 is one twenty-sided die, and 3d6 is three six-sided dice added together.

Why 7 Is the Most Common Roll on 2d6
Rolling one die gives every number an equal chance, but adding two dice does not. There are six ways to make a 7 (1+6, 2+5, 3+4, 4+3, 5+2, 6+1) but only one way to make a 2 or a 12. That is why totals bunch up in the middle — a bell-shaped spread that makes 2d6 a neat way to teach probability, and the reason many board games build their odds around it.
Best of 2 and Worst of 2
The Best of 2 and Worst of 2 presets roll two twenty-sided dice and keep the higher or lower result. Keeping the higher of two rolls pulls your average up (you are unlucky only if both dice roll low); keeping the lower does the opposite. It is a quick, visual way to show how "take the best of several tries" changes the odds.
